The Sony a93 might be the best camera For video and it's going to completely Change how you shoot video I got Exclusive access to the Sony a93 and I Was able to get more Hands-On time with It than almost anyone else to do an Unbiased review and see if the a93 is Really the next groundbreaking camera And right when I picked up this camera I Was blown away by how fast the Sony a93 Is and currently it's actually the Fastest full fullframe mirrorless camera On the planet but fast doesn't just mean Taking a lot of photos or slow motion Video the Sony a93 is fast in five Different ways and the last one is Probably the most important the first Way the Sony a93 is so fast is the 24 Megapixel full-frame sensor and it has Something really unique about this Sensor which is a first of its kind in The mirrorless camera world most cameras Have a rolling shutter which read the Pixels from top to bottom and this Usually leads to a Jello or wobble Effect in videos when there's a lot of Motion but the Sony a93 actually has a Global shutter which means it reads Every pixel on the sensor at the same Time which gives you zero wobble or any Kind of jell effect when there's fast Moving action and sensors with global Shutter is only something you see in High-end Cinema cameras like the Ari
Alexa or the Komodo X having a global Shutter is going to add a certain level Of Polish and realism to all of your Shots and thanks to the speed of that 24 Megapixel fullframe Global shutter Sensor this is going to allow you to Capture photos and videos in a way You've never seen before the video in This camera absolutely blew me away Because it added two features that Sony Video Shooters have been begging for it Finally adds 4K 60 without a crop and The 4K 60 is also down sampled from 6K So your 4K footage is going to have the Detail and Clarity of 6K and it also Adds 4K at 100 20 frames per second Although this mode is not down sampled It is mindblowing to see 4K 120 actually In a Sony camera at such a high quality And the Sony a93 still gives you the Same high data rates as you get with any Sony camera so you can shoot easily as High as 200 to 600 megabits per second In terms of video frame rates and specs The a93 does everything the A7 S3 and The fx3 does which are currently Sony's Best video cameras however one problem That a lot of Sony video cameras have is Overheating so I figured the Sony a93 is Probably going to overheat too right Well recording at 4K at 24 frames per Second at the highest 600 megabits per Second bit rate I got well over an hour In my overheating test and with 4K 60 at
The same high bit rate I once again got Well over an hour the only time I had an Overheating issue was running 4K at 120 Frames per second in which case I only Got 25 minutes and I also had the Temperature set to 85° in my room as far As I can tell the a93 should not have Any overheating issues however one Problem that I can see the sonone a93 Having is actually with that Global Shutter sensor usually with the global Shutter you get less dynamic range and It's usually not very good in low light Either so I tested the a93 for low light Capabilities at 12,800 ISO all the way Up to 25,600 ISO which is the maximum ISO Range and I also used an F4 lens with a Shutter speed of 1 over 60 I was pretty Blown Away by how good the low light was There's very little noise or grain and Whatever you do have you can easily Clean up in post production and I had The noise reduction completely turned Off in camera so this is the worst that It's ever going to look the a93 is Shockingly good in low light while it's Not as good as the fx3 or Sony A7 S3 it Is still very decent however there is One massive benefit of having a global Shutter sensor because your sensor Readout speed is so fast you no longer Need a physical shutter in your camera And you can actually shoot electronic
Shutter mode that looks as good as a Physical shutter and this has multiple Benefits one you never have to worry About your physical shutter getting old And your camera having to be replaced or Not being usable second most cameras are Maybe shooting 10 maybe 15 frames per Second mechanical shutter and 20 to 30 Frames per second electronic shutter Mode but once again electronic shutter Mode is going to give you artifacting And Camera Wobble the a93 can Sho 120 Frames per second using electronic Shutter mode that looks as good as a Physical shutter with zero artifacting Whatsoever however there is a downside Here the Sony a93 shoots at 120 frames Per second but only up to 196 raw frames Which means after 196 frames it does Need a break so you're really only Shooting 120 for a little over a second But there is a fix to this you can Simply shoot at 60 frames per second Which is still going to give you a ton Of images but it's just not as fast and With this you can extend that frame Buffer but if you want to shoot this Like a normal camera at 10 or 15 frames Per second in my testing it just shot Forever it's basically an unlimited Frame buffer now one thing that Sony has Done is that you can shoot this camera At a regular 10 15 30 frames per second And if you do want that 120 for a quick
Second you can actually hit the turbo Boost button that is right next to the Shutter button where it will quickly Snap into 120 frames per second mode for Just a little bit and then go back into Regular shooting this way you don't end Up with a million photos cuz shooting at 120 frames per second is thousands of Photos and one thing that I know every Photographer is going to love whether You do Fashion sports Wildlife or any Kind of action as that the a93 can also Shoot at a shutter speed of one over 80,000 not 8,000 one over 80,000 that is The fastest shutter speed on any camera And you can can also syn the shutter Speed with basically any speed of Flash Without getting any sort of strobing and No matter how good you are with your Camera no one's going to be able to get The perfect shot every single time so The Sony a93 also has something known as Pre-recording or pre-shooting where the Camera is technically always taking Photos and you simply hit the shutter Button to let it know when you want it To actually save those photos this way Even if the moment you're waiting for Just happened you can push that shutter Button and will give you up to 2.1 Seconds right before you hit the shutter Missing a shot with the Sony a93 is Virtually impossible but is the Autofocus actually any good and I'm so
Happy to say the autofocus is Tac sharp It has the same autofocusing system as The Sony a7c Mark I the Sony a7c R and The Sony A7 R5 which uses AI algorithms To actually predict where the camera Thinks your subject's going and it's Already racking Focus to that point the Autofocus in Sony cameras it's l years Ahead and I'm really happy to see they Put the best autofocus in this camera But as fast as the Sony a93 is if it Doesn't have the right body and design You're not going to be able to operate This camera quickly enough to get your Shot and if the body and design don't Work the camera doesn't work and I'm Happy to say the Sony a93 now has two Separate dials to switch between Different autofocus modes but also Switch between different frame rate Modes this is going to be really helpful For when you're doing run gun shooting And it's going to be way easier to Change your modes using those dials Instead of going into your menus and it Also has a joystick on the back to Change autofocus points and it has two Separate custom buttons right next to The shutter button to quickly bring up Different menus that are important to You as a shooter and this is going to Make your shooting workflow a lot faster One thing that video Shooters are really Going to appreciate is that there's now
A large video record button on the back Of the camera this way if I have the Camera up to my eye for photos and I Want to start taking video I can just Simply hit that button and it will snap Right into video this is going to make Going between photo and video much Faster and the fact that the Sony a93 Virtually has zero over hitting issues Is going to make this a dream camera for Video Shooters the a93 should be out in Spring of 2023 which means I will get at Least two to three weeks with this Camera doing a deep dive Hands-On review So if you guys want to see that make Sure to subscribe and I'll see you guys In the next video peace
