Canon R100 – The Best Everyday Camera?

The Canon r100 is supposed to be the Affordable camera for everyone but is it Actually worth it because in order to Keep the price down they had to cut a Lot of corners and if it's meant to be An everyday casual camera is it better Than your cell phone so I tested the R100 for about two weeks as my everyday Casual camera to see how it performs and I have to say I'm really surprised by The results because inside the r100 you Have a 24 megapixel aps-c size sensor Which is the same sensor found in more Expensive Canon cameras like the Canon M50 Canon R50 and the Canon r10 and I'm Happy to say you get very similar photo Qualities to those cameras the photos Are crisp with very natural and true to Life colors and with 24 megapixels you Still have plenty of resolution for Zooming into your photos and cropping And cutting things out also if you want To check out the r100 I'll leave links Down below with the best pricing looking At the Canon r100 photos side by side With an iPhone pro model I can Immediately see a difference can you the Canon r100 photos are richer with more Detail and I also prefer the colors but Overall they just look sharper and they Really pop off the screen the iPhone Looks pretty good but I don't really Love this fake HDR effect it has going On and also the photos just don't feel

As dense and as rich and they don't Really pop off the screen like the r100 Does and I know some of you guys in the Comments have a two thousand dollar Galaxy Ultra Pro Max quad Dragon I know You're in the comments I'm not picking a Fight with you guys one great thing About the r100 is that you can also Directly send your photos straight from Your camera to your cell phone it's a Really easy and seamless process and This way you can immediately share the Photos you take on the camera through Your cell phone but I can confidently Say the r100 does look better than your Average cell phone when it comes to Everyday shooting the r100 is just fast Enough it can shoot 6.5 frames per Second which is plenty fast for everyday Casual shooting but really not fast Enough for serious sports or Wildlife Photography and if you're shooting Something that's fast moving and you Want to make sure your images are not Blurry make sure you use the sports mode In this camera and there's also a whole Bunch of other modes in this camera that Really help you shoot different Scenarios like portraits nighttime Landscape Sports food HDR the list goes On it really takes all the guesswork out Of how to properly set up your camera You just pick the mode you want and then Go and the autofocus in the r100 works

Flawlessly it does a great job at Tracking subjects even things that are Fast moving and I never really Encountered a scenario where the Autofocus was struggling or hunting and One thing that I love about the r100 is That it can also shoot a hundred jpeg Photos without needing a break so if You're at rock concert party kids pets Anything that's fast moving you can Simply hold down the shutter button and Just let it rip and you will without a Doubt get the perfect shot in there Somewhere although if you're shooting Raw photos it only shoots five to six Raw photos in a row before this camera Needs a break although I don't expect This to be the type of camera that Someone picks up shoots Raw photos Heavily edits them and is trying to do Serious photo editing work it's not Really that kind of camera but if you're A beginner who's just getting their First camera you're new to photography This is a really great camera that you Can practice your composition and Lighting and there's plenty of data and Information in those raw files that you Can make really high level edits with This camera if you want to now the Canon R100 does shoot video but if you're Someone that's really into video there's A few things you should know about this Camera first the r100 shoots full HD at

24 and 30 frames per second for Real-time video the quality is pretty Decent though I think it looks a little Bit too sharp and I recommend turning Down the in-camera sharpness and this is One of those cases where you might Actually find your cell phone video Quality is just as good or maybe a Little bit better than the r100 but one Advantage of the r100 is that because it Uses a traditional lens and sensor System you're still going to get a more Cinematic video look to your videos Whereas cell phone videos just kind of Look very flat because they use a Smaller sensor in a much smaller lens The r100 also shoots full HD at 60 Frames per second for two times slow Motion and let's just be honest Everything looks better in slow motion And it also shoots 120 frames per second For five times slow motion but it only Shoots this in 720p which is kind of low Res and most people have cell phones That can actually shoot better video Than 720p even for 120 frames per second Now the r100 does shoot 4K video but When you shoot 4K it actually crops into Your sensor which Zooms in your entire Image so you can't get a wide shot but Also in 4k you kind of get this Jello Wobble the autofocus doesn't work well And you can only shoot at 24 frames per Second as a video camera the r100 Is Not

Great which is kind of a shame because I Think the kind of person that wants this Camera would love to be able to shoot Photos and video both at a high quality Lastly let's talk about design because I Think some photographers will love this As a photo camera but there's a lot more That goes into the design and usability Of this camera to actually make this a Good and fun camera to use I think most People are going to love how small and Compact this camera is putting this Camera next to an actual mirrorless Camera you can see how much smaller the R100 is the r100 is super light you Could hold this camera all day it does Not feel like a hassle especially if You're traveling with it and you can Also directly connect your r100 to your Cell phone using the Canon EOS app and This gives you a bunch of really awesome Features one it lets you directly import Any photos and videos from the camera Right to your phone second it also gives You a live view of what the camera sees So you can actually use your cell phone As a monitor and thirdly you can also Use your cell phone as remote to change Settings and operate your camera that Was a long sentence when it comes to the Buttons and usability of the camera the Ergonomics are great it's a really easy Camera to use you pretty much can figure Out where everything is and how to use

Everything really quickly and the menus Are also really simple straightforward In fact the camera actually explains a Lot of the settings to you in the menus However two things that I think will be A deal breaker for some of you guys is One the screen on the back is fixed it Does not tilt out does not tilt up it is Fixed so it gets a little bit harder When you're trying to record yourself or Shoot yourself for photos but this is a Scenario where I recommend using the Canon EOS app to use live view on your Phone to see exactly what your camera's Seen and unfortunately the screen on the Back is also not touch sensitive Canon Actually has really great touch screens In all of their cameras you can pretty Much use the entire camera just using The back screen so I'm really sad that Feature is not in here and most Canon Cameras also have touch autofocus which Allows you to Simply tap something on The back screen it will automatically Pull Focus to it that is one thing that I really really wish was on that camera But if that is a feature that you want The Canon R50 does have that the battery That the Canon r100 comes with is pretty Decent and you will get a full day of Shooting with this camera maybe a little Bit less if you're shooting a lot of Video but one thing that really broke my Heart is that you cannot charge this

Camera via the USB port so you can only Charge this camera by putting the Battery directly into the battery Charger now this is going to be a hassle If you need to walk around with spare Batteries or if you need to walk around With two separate Chargers if you're Traveling when shooting with the r100 You want to keep it really simple and The kit lens that it comes with is an 18 To 55 millimeter this way you're going To be able to get a wide shot and a Close-up shot in one lens but it does Have a variable aperture so it's not the Best in low light but one lens that I do Recommend picking up is a 24 to 100 it's Like the perfect traveling and vacation Lens this way you can get a wide shot But you can also shoot things really far Away if you can't get close to them I Know when I'm traveling there's things Way off in the distance that I wish I Was closer to and that lens is going to Be very key on vacation and another Thing I recommend doing I also recommend Checking out the Canon STM primes the 35 And 50 millimeter are really good lenses They're really sharp and they have a Wider aperture for low light shooting But they also give you that cinematic Blurry background look which is really Cool for taking portraits so is the Canon r100 good enough and can it Replace your cell phone Canon honestly

Cut every possible Corner they could Just to give you a very affordable yet Very pleasant photo experience the r100 Works really well for someone who wants A pure photography experience or a Beginner Creator or photographer that Wants to get into photography and Practice their skill set the video in The r100 is pretty decent in terms of Quality and because you have a bigger Sensor and a bigger lens you're also Going to get a more cinematic look to Your video overall if you want to level Up your photo game you know your cell Phone does not cut it when it comes to Photos the r100 is a great choice as a Beginner camera and if you're a beginner Creative or someone that wants to get Into photography more seriously down the Road this is a great place to start off And practice your skills and if you want To learn more about the Canon r100 I'll Leave links in the description down Below with the best pricing so make sure To check that out and I will see you Guys in the next video peace
