Fuji XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR lens review

Howy you again everyone and today I'm Testing out Fuji's Ultimate Super Telephoto monster lens I tried out that Incredible 200 mm F2 lens a couple of Years ago which offers wonderful Aperture brightness well now I have the Lens that's designed to offer sheer Length the Fuji XF 150 to 600 mm f5.6 To8 R LM ois WRR is a beast of a lens That gets you the full-frame equivalent Field of view of about 228 to 912 mm Those are some pretty extreme telephoto Angles we're talking about making itself Fantastically useful for wildlife Photography the zoom range is especially Useful as it enables you to zoom out to Look around for your subject and then Zoom in to it for your close-up picture This is a lens that makes bird Photography especially fun especially if You have one of Fuji's best cameras with Decent animal autofocus capability like The xt5 I've been testing it on the Lens's main disadvantage is of course It's rather dark maximum aperture which Means you'd better use some pretty high ISO levels when you're zooming in but Realistically there's no other way the Lens could have been made handh holdable And affordable than keeping the maximum Aperture down talking about affordable The lens's price of $2,000 or £1,900 here in the UK is hardly chump Chain but compared to the luxury super

Telephoto lenses on fullframe camera Systems most of which cannot reach as Far as this one it's potentially very Good value especially if you're a pro I'd like to thank Fuji UK very much for Loaning me this crazy lens for a few Weeks for testing although as usual this Is a totally independent review I'll be Looking at its strengths and its Weaknesses the lens itself is of course Very long very thin and at just over 1 And 1/2 kg or 3 and 1/2 lb weighty but Not really heavy you could shoot quite a While with this thing on your camera Before needing to give your arms a rest Just imagine how big this thing would Have been if the aperture were brighter For me this is honestly the perfect size It's slightly shimmery off gray white Color is a little strange to behold but It's not unattractive at all it's mostly Made of good quality plastic probably to Keep the weight down helping you to Effectively handhold the lens is its Image stabilization system or ois as Fuji call it here's some figit 600 mm Without stabilization and here it is Turned on I was being rather blown Around by the wind on the day that I Shot this footage so for a 600 mm lens On an apsc camera it's a fantastic Performance really Fuji have been Producing image stabilized Optics since Long before they introduced X system

Cameras and their experience in this Field shows Fuji claimed that the this Lens is very well weather sealed and There is a weather sealing gasket around The rear mount towards the rear of the Lens there's a very sturdy metallic Tripod mount which can of course be Turned and adjusted easily then you get A whole host of controls for Focus Including for presetting your focus Point which some photographers do find Useful in front of those comes an Aperture ring with positive clicks to it And in front of that comes a rubberized Zoom ring which turns extremely smoothly Even And a little heavily and in front of That with a slightly lighter turn comes The rubberized Focus ring when manually Focusing the focus ring is pretty Responsive to being turned although the Focus movement itself is a little jerky As you can see here that's pretty normal For a Fuji lens in my experience Something else you can see here is that The lens suffers from very little Focus Breathing not really changing focal Length as you focus in and out the Lens's autofocus system works worked Very well on the Fuji xt5 I was Borrowing for this test quick silent and Accurate subject tracking was mostly Good although in my experience it wasn't Quite as Ticky as lenses on the latest

Canon or Sony cameras still Fuji have Been catching up to them well recently And paired with the xt5 the lens gave me Plenty of good keepers I wasn't Dissatisfied in front of the manual Focus ring and spaced around the body Come four Focus hold buttons the lens Has a front filter thread of 82 mm which Is really handy for polarizing filters Although with the maximum aperture being So dark already you might not want to Use them a minor criticism I'd make is That the front of the lens is not Rubberized like other luxury telephoto Lenses from other manufacturers which Would have been a nice touch to avoid Damage if you accidentally bump the Front of this long thing into something Easy to do when working with a telephoto Optic this long in size but overall I Loved this thing's build quality and was Particularly impressed with its Lightweight and image stabilization and Autofocus systems all right let's look At image quality then as I've mentioned Already Fuji were very brave and loaned Me an xt5 camera to go with this lens With its incredibly demanding 40 map Apsc sensor which will have some mild Defraction problems with this lens Related to the lens's dark maximum Aperture but still let's see what it can Do at 150 mm and f5.6 image quality is Just reasonably sharp in the middle but

At least in the corners it's no softer At f8 the corners look just a little Better and back in the middle contrast Has picked up to give us great image Quality f11 looks softer due to the Effect of defraction and F16 doesn't Look so good at all for the same reason Bear in mind though no matter how sharp Your lens is there's no avoiding the Laws of physics and those Associated Issues with defraction okay let's zoom In halfway to 350 mm the maximum Aperture has now darkened to F7.1 in the middle the lens remains nice And sharp despite the fact that Defraction on a 40 megap camera is Already softening the image a little Corner image quality still sees quite Decent resolution although we see a Little ghosting on contrasting edges at F11 we see a nice little increase in Contrast although resolution is slightly Lower due to to defraction and for those Curious here is F16 and F22 again those Are natural defraction issues on a 40 Map apsc sensor and finally 600 mm the Maximum aperture has now darkened to f8 Although defraction is already an issue Here on a 40 mapel sensor we are still Seeing very good detail and contrast Right now this is a pleasing performance In the middle of the image Corner image Quality is a bit softer but we're still Getting a fair amount of detail here

Stop down to f11 for a slightly better Image overall from corner to corner in Your images although obviously due to Defraction when're still not getting Razor sharpness here and as for F-16 or Darker defraction just causes softness Overall well I don't think I've ever Mentioned the word defraction so much in One review you must be getting pretty Tired of it by now honestly in some ways This lens is a bit of a victim of its Own dark maximum apture especially when Used on a high resolution camera but What's pleasing is that even at 600 mm We're still seeing nice image quality Even at the maximum aperture fullframe Cameras and lenses might be able to do Just a little better but honestly the Results from this thing and the xt5 I Borrowed were impressive out in the Field don't look down your nose at image Quality like this at these kind of crazy Focal lengths it's very good all right Let's see about fatting and Distortion Without in camera Corrections across the Entire Zoom range the lens only projects A mild pin cushion Distortion here and Some vignetting at its maximum apture Here at 150 mm at f5.6 but at f8 those Corners brighten up at 600 mm and f8 Those Corners again are a little dark But stop down to f11 and that fetting Largely goes away so if you're working In war you might want to correct those a

Little bit the lens's minimum Focus Distance is 2.4 m Sounds like a long way well remember That's at 600 mm at that close distance Sharpness remains quite good but Contrast is just okay and at f11 the Situation is about the same let's see About work against Bright Lights as Usual for a Fuji lens this optic offers Very good resistance to Bright Lights Retaining its contrast and displaying Very little flaring whether you're Zoomed in or zoomed out the only Problems come if bright lights are Directly in your image next bker as with Most luxury super telephoto lenses this Thing offers lovely soft outer Focus Background no serious problems here at All and related to bka comes Longitudinal chromatic aberration at 600 Mm and f8 it's noticeable but low at f11 It is virtually gone overall this is yet Another Fuji lens that I loved loved Loved testing out and I think that its Price of $2,000 is actually kind of Reasonable value for what you're getting Here I love bird photography and I Haven't had as much fun with a birding Lens since I borrowed a Canon RF 1200 mm F8 which costs £22,000 but that all comes with a caveat It needs to be used with Fuji's latest And best cameras if you want a decent Autofocus performance here I dread to

Think what my aging Fuji xt3 would have Made of this lens and I'm very glad Fuji Loaned me an xt5 to go with this thing With its improved animal autofocus System but aside from that I think Fuji Really nailed this thing they got Everything right at least for a Photographer like me I loved testing This lens and I'm gutted that I had to Give it back but not surprised either Highly Recommended go I love testing out these Super telephoto lenses but it takes a Lot of extra work it's so tricky to get The test photos just right I have to Take all kinds of extra things into Consideration and be so careful and so I Have to say a huge thank you to my Patreon supporters for their extra well Support check out my patreon page in the Description below supporters get all Kinds of extra bonus content plus a warm Fuzzy feeling inside for keeping this Channel Trucking on ciao for now Everyone
