Interested or new to having a camera Separate from their smartphone so yeah Let's Dive In Let's take a look at the Sony zv1 Mark II Which has a release price of 899 US Dollars [Music] One more sign up before we start let me State the obvious there is no perfect Camera or if you think I'm wrong please Let me know in the comments I firmly Believe that the right camera is Different for each person and their Specific needs so I can't be the one to Tell you if you need this camera or not That should be up to you and your needs And ultimately that'll Define what kind Of Creator vlogger or photographer you Are so good job to you and finally who Am I my name is Jason handardy I've been Making photographs for over 20 years and I've worked as a photographer video Producer editor and Director of Photography both freelance and in-house For online Publishers Brands and large Tech companies so with that out of the Way let's look at the Sony zv1 Mark II's Features and specs Features and specs In true Sony fashion Sony's list of Features for this camera is longer than A CVS receipt so I'm only going to cover Some of the basics and if you want to

Read the full Sunny press release you Can do so on dpreview.com which will be Linked in the description the zv1 Mark II has a 20 megapixel type 1 stack CMOS Sensor a sensor that's larger than most Smartphones allowing For Better bokeh Or Background defocusing perhaps making This camera worthwhile upgrade for Creators who have solely been using Their phone the lens is an 18 to 50 Millimeter equivalent F 1.8 to F4 and This lens is probably the most Noteworthy upgrade from the original zv1 For those who are using the original zv1 As a vlogging camera Sony intended one Of the major complaints was that the Lens was just not wide enough with the New zv1 Mark II Sony increased the Widest focal length to 18 millimeters Which will allow loggers the ability to Add more of their environment into their Frame in terms of video this camera can Shoot 4K up to 30 frames per second and HD 1080p up to 120 frames per second do Note that this is 8-bit we'll talk a Little bit more about this later for Photos you have the option to shoot both Jpegs and raw this seems like a standard But this camera on screen the zv1f that Looks very similar does not chew raw There's a built-in three-stop ND helpful For creators who want to shoot at lower Apertures when they're in very bright or Sunny situations it has active mode

Electronic image stabilization to help You get smooth looking footage while You're moving a fully articulating touch Screen to help creators compose their Shots while filming themselves the Camera Sports a three capsule mic to Help capture better audio but some are Probably going to want to use a more Robust mic unfortunately if you have or Looking into using a mic like the Sony B10 which connect via Sony's Multi-interface shoe you won't be able To use it with the zv1 Mark II I tried And the camera still doesn't have Headphone sockets so you won't be able To monitor your audio in real time in Terms of styles and picture profiles Users get 10 creative look presets a Cinematic Vlog setting and the ability To record in various versions of hlg Which is hyberlog gamma and also s-log 2 And s-log 3. these log profiles are Gamma curves with wide dynamic range Usually seen in more expensive cameras But there are limitations with using Them on the zv1 Mark II and they do take A bit more post-production work we'll Dive into these a bit deeper next whoa But wait most importantly is this camera Pocketable It really depends on the pocket but I Think it would fit most jackets or Hoodies Cinevlog and picture profiles

Let's look at the cine Vlog setting and Picture profiles for those a bit more Experienced we'll mention that the zv1 Mark II is limited to 4208 bit if that Doesn't mean much to you now I probably Wouldn't sweat it too much just keep Focusing on making things this will come More into play when we talk about log Profiles first off cineblog when you Turn this function on the camera will Automatically set your framing to a cine Scope size of 235 to 1 and change your Frame rate to 24 frames per second this Gives someone a cinema look by adding These litter boxes to the top and bottom Of your footage one caveat is that it Also seems like since the letterbox is Burned into your footage you're actually Losing information if you can commit to This look it could be cool but others May want to shoot regular 4K and add the Letterbox when you're editing so you Have more information to reframe your Footage if you want this particular look Next I'm not going to talk about hlg or Hyperlog gamma because I feel like There's a lot more interest in s-log 2 And slog3 so I'm going to focus on that Here's a shot without any picture Profile turned on for reference Now here's a similar shot using s-log 2 And then converted to the standard Rec 709 color space no color grading was Done just some basic adjustments to give

An idea of what a base conversion would Look like now here's a shot using slog3 And converted [Music] While it's nice that Sony included slive 2 and slog3 I did find it kind of harder To bring into a basic color space out of The zv1 Mark II in comparison to other Sony cameras I do think this is largely Due to the camera being limited to 4208-bit and smaller sensor size Honestly I'd be okay with not using any Picture profile or making something that Makes turning footage around a lot Easier when using this camera but that's Total personal preference Photos Well I don't think the majority of Buyers of these Sony's ev1 Mark II are Going to be prioritizing it for mainly Photos it's nice that it does shoot Photos both jpegs and raw because like I Said earlier there are cameras like the Zv1f that don't offer raw the compact Size of the camera also makes for some Pretty interesting shooting experiences If I stretch my imagination for a bit These even when Mark II kind of almost Looks similar to the now very expensive Context T3 film point and shoot which I Really loved so I wanted to check out What it would be like to shoot photos With the camera and here's what I found I kept the zv1 Mark II in auto ISO and

The wide autofocus setting and walked Around the Waterfront in Seattle if you Turn the shutter sound off the camera is Silent for Candace street photography People thought I was just a funny Tourist in the right light this camera Actually does a pretty decent job but it Wouldn't be my go-to camera if I wanted To predominantly shoot photos a personal Wish of mine is that I wish the camera Could remember what focal length you Last were at because if you turn the Camera off it's going to always default Back to the widest 18 millimeter when You turn it back on then again this Camera is focused on video so it's nice That you can even take photos with it And it's kind of a funny thing to say About a camera but it's true Who's the camera for This camera like Sony says is geared Towards vloggers and content creators There's no surprise about that someone Who may be looking to move from their Smartphone to a dedicated camera with Room to Grow but I can also see it Serving small businesses who want to get Into making very simple videos or even Someone like myself who understands the Camera's capabilities and limitations But just wants a pocketable video camera To film Slice of Life stuff as if it Were A camcorder other Sony options

Mariah commented on the original zv1 Mark II article on the site and said It's nice to see Sony one of the very Few companies still releasing compact Cameras totally besides the original zv1 And cheaper zv1f people do have other Sony options they can look into if They're looking for something a bit Different here's what you got the Sony Zve1 and this is the new more expensive More advanced sibling in the zv line That supports a full-frame sensor and Interchangeable lenses perhaps a good Option for someone looking for a bit More customizability the Sony zve10 a Little bit older of a camera and not as Compact but it does take interchangeable Lenses and has a larger aps-c sensor in Comparison of the zv1 Mark II used you Can probably get it cheaper than the zv1 Mark II as well the Sony RX100 Mark 7. If you're more interested in photos and Want something compact this would be a Great option it has a pop-up electronic Viewfinder and equivalent focal length That goes all the way to 200 millimeters So there you have it the zv1 Mark II for Some like generic name as a zv1 owner I Think this might have been a tempting Upgrade if it was 100 or 200 less or add 10 bit video it may not Warren an Upgrade for some but for others this Might be the right camera for the right Time I'm Jason if you've made it this

Far in the video thank you I hope this Was helpful and I hope to see you again Later
