All-New 10X Telephoto: Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 Review

Hey guys so today I am reviewing a new Lens from Sigma that is releasing today This is the sigma 60 to 600 millimeter F 4.5 to 6.3 DG dnos now normally I would Have that lens in front of me but I Spent the last three weeks in Oregon Sigma sent me the lens and then I had it For about a week and I had to send it on To another reviewer I'm excited about This lens and I'm not normally a Telephoto lens fan but there are a Couple of things that make this lens Really incredible starting with the fact That it is a 10x lens that's right Grant Cardone would approve of it let's jump Into this review I'm not going to spend Much time on packaging there is a huge Box plenty of little accessories and a Carrying case and the lens with a giant Lens Hood what I do want to talk about Is the design and the little things that Make this new full-frame telephoto lens Different and there are three huge Features that I want to highlight and a Few smaller ones that I will mention First the range this is the world's First and only only 60 to 600 millimeter Telephoto lens according to Sigma to Come close you have the 150 to 500 Millimeter from Tamron and the 200 to 600 millimeter from Sony but what those Lenses don't give you is the flexibility On the wide end now you guys have Probably heard of the Tamron 35 to 150

Which is an insanely well received lens Well reviewed I haven't had a chance to Test it but it's sold out everywhere Um it's a very very good lens because It's so versatile and I think that this Sigma 60 to 600 is along those same Lines it's genius in the fact that it's So flexible you can go from a wide shot Like this to a close-up at 600 Millimeters like this and on an aps-c Camera that means you can go from Effectively 90 millimeters to 900 Millimeters with one lens and this is a Big deal because there used to be three Budget telephoto lens options out there For Sony mirrorless cameras the Sony 200 Is 600 the Tamron 150 to 5 100 and the Sigma 150 to 600 and in general the Consensus was the Sony was the best Performer especially because you can add A teleconverter to it the Tamron was More budget-friendly smaller and just as Sharp optically and the sigma had Slightly better stabilization but worse Autofocus speed and it was big now you Have a lens from Sigma that adds 60 Millimeter to 150 and that changes Everything when you are comparing these Telephotos whereas in the past you would Have needed to swap lenses now you may Not have to it's crazy to consider with A Sigma 18 to 50 and this new telephoto You could have a coverage of 18 Millimeters to 600 millimeters on your

Aps-c camera with just two lenses the Second big deal is autofocus Specifically sigma's new HLA or high Response linear actuator and yes linear Means this is a new linear autofocus Motor its high speed high precision and Highly quieter and this is very Noticeable especially at high tele photo Focal distances at 600 millimeters most Third-party telephoto lenses take a While whereas this new 60-600 is quick Much faster than I expected and just as Good as any native Sony telephoto lens That I've tested in addition this Autofocus motor is compatible with all Of the latest and greatest autofocus Algorithms on your Sony camera so Real-time tracking much to my surprise Worked now I won't comment much about The real-time autofocus performance in This review because while I was Reviewing this lens in Oregon simula Released a statement sent me an email Said hey this is beta firmware the Non-beta release day firmware will offer Quote significant autofocus performance Improvements in terms of real-time Tracking so I will say this from what I Saw I was very impressed I struggled With finding little birds at essentially 900 millimeters but not with autofocus It's a big change and that linear motor Alone makes this a better Choice as a Run around telephoto lens than almost

Anything else on the market the third Big deal and something that I noticed Almost immediately is the optical Stabilization Sigma is calling this Their newly designed os2 which is an Optical stabilizer algorithm that they Claim can compensate up to seven Yes you Heard seven stops and this is a Noticeable improvement over the old Stabilization which was three to four Stops I can't quite pin it down but That's what I'm reading online this 60 To 600 millimeter has two OS modes Normal and panning and the panning mode Combines an algorithm a stabilizer and An acceleration sensor to track objects Such as cars or planes or birds flying With stability now this is maybe less Exciting if you are looking at this lens For a full-frame camera as most Sony Full-frame cameras have Ibis already but If you have an aps-c camera with no Stabilization such as the a6000 or the A6100 that I still use all the time this Is a huge deal this is what happens when You hold your a6100 and this Sigma lens At 600 millimeters but in reality this Is about the equivalent of 900 Millimeter on a full frame it's shaky And then you turn on the lens Stabilization and this is what you get That is absolutely amazing not a single Sample photo or video that I took with This lens on my Sony a7c or a6100 was

Done on a tripod and I never felt like I Needed one so those three things are the Main highlights of this new telephoto Lens from Sigma but there are a couple Other small things that I do want to Mention the zoom mechanism on this lens Like a few other sigmas before it is a Dual action Zoom meaning you can rotate It to zoom or you can grab the front of The lens and just pull it forward this Is awesome because it's faster and it Gives you more stability and control This lens is dust and splash resistant And the front element coated with water And oil repellent there is a focus Limiter switch which further speeds up Autofocus if you don't want the lens to Try to Focus through the full range There are three autofocus lock buttons That you can assign to different Functions the lens body incorporates an ARCA Swiss compatible magnesium alloy Tripod socket the lens features 27 Elements in 19 groups at 200 millimeter It can give you a maximum magnification Of 1 to 2.4 which is almost like a macro Sort of but not entirely every Sigma Lens goes through their own proprietary MTF testing and this thing is made in Japan so that is this lens in a nutshell The three main things 10x range so 60 to 600 millimeters the new linear autofocus Motors the seven stops of stabilization Which is crazy and on top of that you

Have all of the great things that make a Sigma telephoto lens a sigma telephoto Lens so excellent build quality good Materials good resale value fully Featured all the buttons and knobs and Switches that you could ever want on a Telephoto lens and on top of that you Have sigma's performance so let let's Discuss the performance is excellent Again I tested this lens on my a7c for a Few days and then switched it onto my A6100 for another few days and the Results that I got I was very happy with Sharpness is excellent I didn't see a Weak point in the zoom range colors were Vibrant and Punchy chromatic aberration You can see in certain shots for sure But it's pretty well controlled as was Flaring which wasn't an issue because of The large lens Hood and the Oregon Weather out of focus areas were smooth That is the bokeh is very good with a Telephoto lens like this you can get Incredible subject separation just by Stepping back and zooming in especially If you are using it on an aps-c camera As far as Barrel or pincushion Distortion there was nothing really to Complain about but I did have all Corrections enabled on my camera bodies All in all I can confidently say that This is the best telephoto lens that I've tried in terms of autofocus Performance stabilization performance

And Optical performance on this channel But all gray great lenses have some Negatives and this one is no exception So there are a couple of things that I Want to discuss in case you are itching To pull the trigger on this purchase the First is that this lens is not Necessarily a fast telephoto this isn't An F 2.8 constant Zoom this is an F 4.5 On the wide end and 6.3 on the telephoto End which is perfectly fine for most Situations with average to good lighting But if you do take this lens out in the Dark it's not going to wow you with some Night vision performance it is however Par for the course as the Sony 200 to 600 and the Tamron 150 to 500 are just As slow number two this lens is big and Heavy it comes in at 2 500 grams and I Didn't measure it but it's quite long According to the specs max length is 279 Millimeters or 11 inches But the lens Hood adds about another 3 inches so this Ends up being a nice little 14 inch that You have to carry around with you I took This lens up hiking on a short little One and a half mile hike up a little Hill and I got at least 15 comments from Random strangers about my massive lens Number three is this lens is not cheaper Than a week-long stay at the Ritz it is However a nice clean two thousand Dollars USD which is the same as the Sony 200 to 600 but it's six hundred

Dollars more than the Tamron 150 to 500 However if you consider that this lens Covers you from 60 to 150 it's almost Like it replaces another lens in your Collection maybe just in a way I do Think that there is enough here to Justify the two thousand dollar price Tag and the last thing that I'll say is While there are 1.4 X and 2x Teleconverter options for the L Mount as Far as I know there are no such options For the e-mount so if you want a Teleconverter you are going to have to Buy a Sony Zoom which is a bit Disappointing but then then again with This lens getting as wide as 60 Millimeters perhaps you won't want a Teleconverter anyway it's a great Telephoto lens and I'd highly recommend That you guys check it out especially if You want something with an incredible Range and great autofocus and Stabilization I will try to post some Links down in the description as far as Getting a pre-order up I think it's Going to go up for pre-order when this Video is released and it's going to be Released and start shipping sometime in The middle of February so definitely Check that out you can also read more Specs about it using those links so Check those out thank you guys so much For watching thank you to Sigma for Sending this telephoto lens out to me

For review and also for developing these Lenses for Sony aps-c and full frame Mirrorless cameras it's awesome to see These new lenses come out and I'm Excited to see what they come up with Next so stay tuned for more have a great Day I'll see you guys in the next one Bye-bye
