Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN ‘C’ lens review (Fuji X version)

Hi everyone and today I'm checking out a New Sigma lens for aps-c modeless Cameras the sigma 23 millimeter F 1.4 DC DNC it's available on L Mount Sony E-mount and Fiji X Mount mirrorless Cameras and it won't work on any other System it offers an aps-c image Circle So L Mountain Sony e-mount users will Have to shoot in crop mode now I tested This lens already on Sony e-mount Earlier this year and I really liked the Sample images I got with it so I'll be Using those sample images again for this Review seeing as optically it's the same Lens but of course I'll be redoing all The test photos and footage on my Fuji Xt3 camera Sigma offered to loan me the Lens and I was really curious to check How it performed on The Fuji system as I Liked it so much on Sony E I wanted to See how well the autofocus worked as Well as its performance on that camera's Slightly higher resolution 26 megapixel Sensor now when this lens first appeared On Sony e-mount earlier this year it's Distinguished Itself by having better Image quality than its other Sigma Contemporary piers and a higher asking Price but the quality differences seemed Worth it to me I really liked it 23 Millimeter on an aps-c camera is really Appealing roughly the equivalent of 35 Millimeter on a full frame camera pretty Much the most universal wide angle field

Of view of all time not too wide to Persuade your subject and not so tight That you can't get the bigger picture And at F 1.4 you can shoot in dark Conditions and indoors far more easily Than with a darker aperture lens and get Far more out of focus backgrounds in Your images too this could potentially Be an extremely useful optic well let's Look at its build quality first the lens Is exterior design is pretty unassuming Not the sexiest I've ever seen it feels Solid and metallic though weighing 340 Grams so you will feel it on your camera But it's not heavy the only control Point on the lens is a nicely rubberized Focus ring it turns smoothly and Responds really well with the Focus Motor the lenses Auto Vegas motor is Completely silent accurate and nice and Quick this was the key thing I really Wanted to check about how the lens Translated to the Fuji X system and it's Cooking with gas here The Lens comes With quite a deep plastic lens Hood its Front filter thread size is a small 52 Millimeters wide it does not have image Stabilization overall the lens isn't Exactly good looking but its build Quality is great small and solid with Excellent autofocus certainly a little Better than its older and admittedly Cheaper dzdn cousins let's take a look At image quality now I have mounted this

One onto my Fuji xt3 with its 26 Megapixel aps-c sized sensor and Camera Corrections are turned on for this test At F1 0.4 we see fabulous image quality In the middle of your picture excellent Sharpness and contrast the corner image Quality is a little softer and less Punchy but still pretty good for a wide Angle lens at F 1.4 and F2 contrast Improves just a little but stop down to F 2.8 for a big Improvement sharpness And contrast now look brilliant from Corner to corner although we are seeing A touch of magenta color fringing on Contrasting edges the lens becomes Just A Touch softer again and F4 and defense Taser sharp down to F-16 where we see Some softness due to diffraction overall Though this is still a great performance For a bright aperture wide angle lens on Aps-c there's plenty of sharpness for Pretty much all needs although stopping Down to F 2.8 does improve the corners Noticeably okay let's turn off those In-camera Corrections and look at Distortion and vignetting the lens Project and noticeable Barrel Distortion And at F 1.4 unsurprisingly we see fan Dark Corners stopping down to F2 or F 2.8 really brightens things up there Though still the lens does rely on Corrections quite a lot so leave them on The lenses minimum Focus distance is a Lovely 25 centimeters which is fantastic

For getting shots of smaller subjects Oddly at F 1.4 the close-up image Quality is a little better than the Sony Copy of the lens I tested it's still Noticeably softer than at normal Distances with a little purple fringing But still a fairly clear images here Stop down to F2 for a big jump and Sharpness though and add ft Bond eight Close-up image quality is now perfect How well does the lens work against Bright light spectacularly well actually Even when I write in your picture at F 1.4 we see just a slight Haze but almost No flaring while we're working in the Dark let's take a look at coma levels Bright points of light and the image Corners seem to show Just a Touch of Coma smearing on the 26 megapixel sensor But it's nothing serious stop down to F2 And it's essentially gone if you want to Get sunstars out of this lens then they Begin to emerge at f8 and get pretty Strong and F 16 as you can see let's Take a look at this lenses bokeh now More good news here those out of focus Backgrounds look really lovely and soft To me with no serious problems except For the usual cat's eye shaped two Blockables in the image corners and Finally related toboga let's take a look At longitudinal chromatic aberration It's noticeable at F 1.4 as you can see But at f2 and F 2.8 it quickly goes away

Overall well the good news is that this Lens performs as well as ever on Fuji X Offering good value for money a useful Focal length and an exciting maximum Aperture it as recommendable as ever and I can imagine quite a few Fuji owners Will be picking it up as a cheaper Alternative to Fuji's own slightly Better but way more expensive Alternative Foreign Thanks for watching everyone and to my Patreon supporters thank you so much for Helping me keep these free lens reviews Trucking on checking out in the Description below patreon supporters get All kinds of bonus content and early Access to my more interesting reviews Ciao for now everyone [Music]
