Viltrox 27mm F1.2: A Superb APSC Lens!

The vro 27 mm f1.2 for Sony e-mount is Here and this is an exciting lens Because it's apsc it's F1.2 it gives you that almost 35 mm Field of view on a full frame but it's Really more closer to a 40 mm field of View with a ton of background separation And bouquet and it's all metal build we Know it has autofocus so I'm excited to Check this thing out let's begin it Comes in a black box with a picture of The lens on the front inside there is a Warranty card user manual silica gel and A quality control tag there's also a Microfiber pouch and then comes the lens Itself plastic rear lens cap plastic Front lens cap any cheap feeling front Lens hood that is made out of plastic But that's where the cheap feeling ends Because this lens does feel premium it's Made out of metal and glass and as a Result comes in at 572 G which some may Call heavy for a lens but I have to Reiterate that metal build because I've Been handling even a few G Master lenses And sigma art lenses lately and they Don't feel like this there is something Special about a lens that is made out of Metal that has autofocus in a good Design it's just as good as the 75 mm F1.2 that I've reviewed in the past Although the 75 mm is a tad larger Starting at the rear there is a metal Mount with electronics there is a USBC

Port here for firmware and there is an Orange weather sealing gasket which Closely matches Sony's version of Orange Orange and this lens is dust resistant According to VR with numerous gaskets Throughout so it is weather sealed if You want to describe it that way first Up is the aperture ring which is well Executed it's easy to rotate has a nice Sounding click to it and these clicks Can be turned off with this switch here If you'd like f1.2 to F16 and then a Larger click into Auto a vtr's logo lens Specs Pro logo on this side autofocus Manual focus switch and a focus hold Button the focus ring is next and it Feels excellent smooth well damped with Good grip but it is electronic and with The autofocus of this lens you'll Probably not use it much around the Front there is a nice convex front lens Element with lens specs again image size Is listed here 67 mm filter thread and a Minimum Focus distance of 28 M inside There are 15 elements in 11 groups and An 11 bladed diaphragm focus is handled By an STM or stepper motor which isn't As good as a linear motor but this one Is silent it's a very good stepper motor Mounted on my a6700 this lens is a nice Little combo it does add a bit of weight To the setup but for street photography And walking around with this it's really Not a hassle at all so in fact that is

Exactly what I did I took this lens with My camera out and I shot some portraits Some Street photos and here they are Straight out of the camera unedited Uncorrected Ready Set Go [Music] A [Music] All right so the performance is very Very good and almost every single photo That you just saw was shot wide open at F1.2 which is truly impressive Rive wide Open this is a very sharp lens not only In the center but the corners are Surprisingly sharp as well this is up There with Sigma Prime levels of Sharpness if you guys want an in-depth Comparison please let me know down in The comment section the colors as well As the contrast are excellent Distortions are well controlled there is Some vignetting in the corners for sure And a little bit of barrel Distortion as Well but looking at the shots coming out Of the camera with this lens you Wouldn't complain and fortunately there Is a profile file in Lightroom for this Lens so if you do want to correct these Things it's a oneclick procedure Chromatic aberration is very well Controlled there is a little bit of it Here and there when you are shooting Into the Sun but this is Sigma and Sony

Levels of chromatic aberration very low Especially considering again this is F1.2 I think vtrs did a great job with Their Coatings and internal elements to Reduce that fringing flaring performance Is solid I'm not a fan of the lens Hood Because it's just too cheap feeling and It seems to come off way too easily but Even without the lens Hood I found the Flare performance to be above average Now when it comes to bouquet it's nice And smooth it's not distracting dare I Say it looks smoother to me than the Bouquet from the 23mm sigma it does cat Eye into the edges and the corner but if You stop this lens down those bouquet Balls turn into actual balls but again Shooting this thing wide open it is Truly impressive I think the shots and The bouquet rendering look excellent Then I have to talk about the autofocus Performance which is surprisingly good It's fast it's silent it's accurate all Of the usual words that I used to Describe Sony lenses apply here and I Didn't have any issues with hunting or Mis focusing and tracking is excellent That being said Focus breathing is Pretty heavy so it's not ideal for video Cases in which you'll be racking Focus From close to far the last thing I want To say is that this lens gives you a Specific look and it gives you a feeling That is kind of hard to describe when

You use use it but it makes using this Lens very rewarding and I don't know if It's just the build or if it's the Optics or a combination of everything Because it's so fast at f1.2 but I've Been thinking about this lens and Actually thinking about the 23 mm from Sigma because I think there are some Similarities and certainly some Differences between these two lenses and The sigma 23 is more of that 35mm full Frame equivalent this is more of a 40 mm Fullframe equivalent f1.4 versus f1.2 And certainly there's a size difference Uh if you want a smaller more compact Setup the sigma is the smaller lens out Of the two but I have to say that the Recipe of this 27 mm f1.2 just makes Sense it gives you that street Photography field of view but a touch Closer giving you more background Separation and when you add that f1.2 The background bouquet and the Blurriness makes for a fullframe look And experience it's kind of like that 75 Mm f1.2 it's an incredibly capable an Excellent portrait lens this 27 mm is Just as good except maybe better because You can use it in a larger variety of Scenarios and you get more of your Surroundings into your shot so I like This lens a whole lot more than I Thought that I would and makes a whole Lot of sense why Fuji X Mount Shooters

Who've had this lens for the last I Don't know couple of months 6 months 7 Months something like that have been Singing its praises and calling this one Of the best lenses avail available for X Mount and here it is in Sony e-mount and I have to say it's also one of the best Lenses available for Sony apsc emount as Well there's just something about it it Feels like a mini G Master if there was Such a thing as a gmaster for apsc but Let me know what you guys think down in The comments section below as always Curious to read what you guys have to Say I am truly impressed this is coming Out of vrox which has only been around Doing lenses since 2018 so you look at That in six years they've managed to Develop some pretty amazing lenses for At least Sony apsc so kudos to them keep Doing what you're doing and thank you Guys so much for watching stay tuned for More have a nice day bye-bye
