Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sport Quick Review | Telephoto Versatility

[Music] Foreign It's hard to believe that just a few Years ago one of the primary complaints About the Sony mirrorless platform was The lack of telephoto options in the Past three years we have seen an Abundance of new telephoto zooms Including the Sony 100 to 400 millimeter GM the Sony 200 to 600 millimeter G the Tamron 70 to 300 millimeter rxd 150 to 500 millimeter vxd and 50 to 400 Millimeter vxd zooms and the sigma 100 To 400 millimeter contemporary and 150 To 60 millimeter sport lenses but today I'm here to review the newest Sigma Telephoto zoom and this one has the Biggest Zoom ratio of them all the sigma 60 to 600 millimeter F 4.5 to 6.3 DG Dnos sport just think of a new Zoom for Your Sony e-mount or Leica L Mount Camera that can go from this at 60 Millimeters and then punch all the way Into this at 600 millimeters sound Interesting I thought so more in a Moment after a word from our sponsor Today's episode is brought to you by Phantom wallet the minimalist modern Wallet that is now even better with the New Phantom X that is crafted from Aluminum right here in Canada it is 22 Percent smaller and 35 percent lighter While still making it easy to access Your cards and money when you need them

Thanks to their unique Fanning mechanism You could even customize your wallet due To its modular design with accessories Like a money clip cash holder ID display And even chipolo and air tag tracking Integration visit Store.phantomwallet.com to check out Their unique sizes Styles and finishes That span from aluminum to Wood to Carbon fiber and use code Dustin 15 for 15 off when you're ready to check out The 60 to 600 millimeter is a premium Built lens from Sigma sport lineup this Includes a thorough weather ceiling Throughout the lens from the lens mount To the front element the lens features Focus hold buttons at three positions And a bank of switches that includes an Afmf switch a focus limiter a three Position control for the optical Stabilization and some customizable Buttons for further control The sigma has a lot of exotic materials In the premium construction including Magnesium and carbon fiber infused Engineered Plastics they've shaved a few Hundred grams off the weight of the DSLR Version of the lens though the lens is Still the heaviest in the class at 2 485 Grams or 87.7 ounces when retracted the Lens is 267 millimeters in length but it Does extend another 100 millimeters when Zoomed which makes it longer than the Sony 200 to 600 millimeter when zoomed

Out I find the zoom action a little Stiff but you can use it as a push-pull Design as well which is the faster way To zoom the lens hood is fairly Lightweight and attaches via a tension Knob the tripod collar is not removable Though the Arca Swiss compatible foot Can be removed via tools and replaced With a custom one a padded nylon case is Included along with two different Varieties of front lens caps the front Filter thread is a very large 105 Millimeter size one of the key upgrades To the lens is the second generation Optical stabilizer the stabilizer in the 150 to 600 millimeter DN sport was rated At four stops but this new stabilizer is Rated at seven stops on the wide end and Six stops on the telephoto in it is one Of the best stabilizers I have yet seen And it makes a huge difference for Telephoto video work as you can see here And also provides amazing stability for Stills this shot was taken at just one Fifth of a second handheld at 600 Millimeters I am very impressed with the Stabilizer here Another key Improvement is to the Focus Motor it is an all new Focus system for Sigma which they call high response Linear actuator or HLA the focus speed Is immediately felt as Focus changes Even on the telephoto end are near Instantaneous this increases accuracy as

Well as the Focus motor isn't struggling To keep up I had very high focus Accuracy whether taking photos of humans Or animal subjects I ran a running test With several lenses to compare the sigma The Sony combination of the alpha 1 and The Sony 200 to 600 millimeter G is Flawless as usual giving me about 30 Frames per second of perfectly focused Action Sony limits the burst rate on its Sports Cameras to 15 frames per second however With non-sony lenses but outside of that I was very impressed by Perfect Focus Results with the sigma 60 to 600 Millimeter in my test as well there were No front or back focus wings that extra Torque really helped the lens keep up Despite the beta firmware in my Pre-released test lens Sigma says the Retail firmware tracks even better I was Also impressed with the image quality Here I got some impressive shots even Wide open at 600 millimeters F 6.3 there Was a bit of pin cushion Distortion Throughout the zoom range along with Some vignette but neither are severe and Are easily corrected by the standard Profiles I also found the chromatic Aberrations were well corrected the lens Has consistently good sharpness across The 10-time zoom range starting at 60 Millimeters F 4.5 the results look good Even on my high resolution 50 megapixel

Sony Alpha 1 across the frame when I Compared to other options like the Sony 200 to 600g and the sigma 150 to 600 Millimeter DN sport I found that the Sigma 60 to 600 millimeter stayed very Close to the Sony performance and bested The 150 to 600 millimeter sport at Shared focal lengths that's very Impressive considering how much larger The zoom ratio of the 60 to 600 Millimeter sport is I found the bouquet Quality to be quite nice as well and if You shoot at 200 millimeters you can Achieve a maximum magnification of Nearly 0.42 times that allows you to Really blur out the backgrounds and the Specular highlights are nice and round As well Flare resistance is fairly good too Leaving me very impressed with the Overall Optical package here This is a large lens but it compensates By being very versatile and well made it Is also a fairly expensive lens at 2 000 US Dollars which is the same price as The Sony 200 to 600 but it also offers Up a much larger Zoom range and a Similar feature set if you are looking For maximum versatility the new Sigma 60 To 600 millimeter DN OS sport should Probably Vault to the front of the line Of your telephoto wish list I'm Dustin Abbott and if you want more information You can watch my upcoming definitive
