Sirui 35mm T1.2 ‘Night Walker’ lens review

Howdy again everyone and today I'm Checking out the second in a new set of Lenses from Chinese manufacturer Serie The 35 millimeter nightwalker T 1.2 it's Part of a set of new affordable cine Lenses with affordable prices which Costs 340 pounds here in the UK or 350 In the US or the set of three is a Thousand dollars they come in black or This handsome gunmetal gray color they Are currently available for Sony e-mount Canon RF Fiji X and micro four thirds Cameras they are completely manual Lenses they are not anamorphic Optics And they offer an aps-c or super 35 Cropped image Circle here's the coverage If you shoot the 35 millimeter lens on Full frame I'd like to thank Siri very Much for sending me a set of these Lenses for testing although as usual This is a totally independent review and This particular lens is 35mm meter on a Crop camera that's the full frame Equivalent of about 53 millimeter a Standard field of view useful for Getting a nice little emphasis on your Subject while still wide enough to get The bigger picture in there too that's a Very versatile focal length though and When shooting at T 1.2 not only does it Let in plenty of light for your camera Sensor it's getting you a nicely out of Focused background also as you can see Here the build quality of the lens is

Really quite nice metallic and at about 500 grams not heavy its physical Dimensions share a lot in common with Its 24 millimeter and 55 millimeter Brothers in order to make this set of Three easily changeable the lens is Based on a metal Mount but without any Noticeable weather sealing then comes a Geared aperture ring it juts out from The camera mount quite early so if You're using a very small camera you Might have a little trouble fitting it Onto a tripod plate without some kind of Adapter the capturing turns smoothly and Lightly but the aperture points are not Spaced out evenly so for example trying To change between T8 and t11 will be Really fiddly to do ahead of that comes The geared manual focus ring it turns a Generous 270 degrees so it has plenty of Precision and it's been designed so you Can see the focus distance marked on Either side of the lens but not on top Of it that Focus ring turns smoothly and Evenly and pretty lightly without any Damping it has hard stops at either end Which make a pretty noisy tapping sound When you hit them some damping there to Stop that noise while shooting would Have been beneficial Focus breathing on The 35 millimeter lens as you can see Here is there but minimal this is about As good a performance as you're going to Get on a cine lens at this price point

Each of these lenses has a 67 millimeter Filter thread that thread is surrounded By a thick protective lip on the front Edge which can make it slightly tricky To remove thinner filters the lens does Not come with a hood and does not image Stabilized overall while a more Expensive cine lens will handle a little Better for example an evenly spaced Capturing or better damping on the focus Ring still the build quality of this Silhouette optic is fine for the money You're paying here it feels toughly made And certainly looks pretty good Aesthetically okay let's move on and Look at image quality I'll be testing it Today on a Sony a5100 camera with its 24 Megapixel aps-c sized sensor no and Camera attractions are available with This lens at T 1.2 image quality has Very low contrast especially ghosting on Contrasting edges but some detail is Still being captured there Corner image Quality is very soft here if you use top Down to T2 then the corners look about The same the middle of the image now has Become much better at T 2.8 we're seeing Great sharpness albeit with a little Magenta color fringing and at T4 the Middle is looking fantastic the corners Now are looking great and stop down to T 5.6 for them to become perfectly sharp The lens stays their sharp down to t11 Stop down to t16 and a bit of softness

Begins to emerge due to the effect of Diffraction so it's not a good Performance here overall the lens is a Bit too soft at wider apertures really Although it'll still be good enough for 1080p video and just about okay for 4K Although maybe still a touch soft for That at T 1.2 anyway let's take a look At Distortion and vignetting well it's Good news now the lens projects no real Distortion and vignetting is quite low Even at T 1.2 stop down to T2 and Whatever was there is now gone The lenses minimum Focus distance is 40 Centimeters not bad unfortunately close Up image quality is a disaster for this Lens and at T 1.2 your image is unusable At T 1.4 there's a small Improvement Here's T2 and even t2.8 is still soft Only at T4 do we see some decent Sharpness although it's accompanied by Purple fringing on contrasting edges at T 5.6 we finally see good close-up image Quality so this lenses 100 not designed For close shooting let's see how the Lens works against Bright Lights now we See some broad flaring here but fairly Transparent although the light source Itself is emitting a questionable glow Stop down to T2 for a nice boost to Contrast levels while wearing a dark Let's take a look at coma levels as you Can see the image Corners are quite soft Here while coma smearing is low we are

Seeing a fair bit of false color around A bright point of light in the image Corners stop down to T2 to see that Reduced and at T 2.8 it's gone to be Replaced by some nice Sun Stars those Sun stars get a bit more defined at T4 And T 5.6 but they don't really get any Bigger than this the quality of this Lenses bokeh is quite smooth as you can See which is really important when Shooting at such lovely bright apertures Finally related toboca comes Longitudinal chromatic aberration due to The poor close-up image quality it's Hard to see anything much at T 1.2 so Here's T2 and we can see some fairly Strong color finishing on bucker Highlights here it's still there at T 2.8 and T4 but mostly gone at T 5.6 so That's a real weakness of the tested Lens overall while the 24 millimeter T 1.2 lens tested fairly well this 35 Millimeter one was a lot weaker being a Specially soft at T 1.2 or when shooting Close up it'll be okay for 1080p Shooting or even 4K at a pinch but the Lens's image quality is generally quite Low budget here [Music] Okay that's it thanks for watching Everyone and I do hope you found that Review helpful and a huge thank you to My patreon supporters for their Generosity in keeping this channel going
